Lets talk!

Happy February!

This month classroom counseling lessons will focus on different topics by grade level.   Some will work on how to handle strong feelings and emotions while others will work on stress management skills.

Grades K -1 We will continue our lessons in the Second Step curriculum. Our lessons this month will focus on handling strong feelings using a three step process called Stop! Name your Feeling, Calm down. We are learning about different kinds of feelings like anger, embarrassment and what to say to someone else if you do something to them by accident.

Grade 2 We just completed a lesson on how our brains work and how feelings affect our bodies. We read a book called Your Fantastic Elastic Brain. This month I will be doing a lesson on “the wrinkled heart” and the power of words to hurt others. Our other lesson will focus on handling strong feelings.

Grade 3 will be also be learning about how our brains work and how our feelings affect our bodies. We will also work on how to handle strong feelings.

Grade 4 is learning about what happens in our brains and bodies when we experience a strong feeling and then we will move on to some different situations that cause strong feelings and what to do about them using the Second Step curriculum.

Grades 5 lessons will focus on stress, what it is and how to manage it. This is a unit that we will continue for several lessons.

I don’t know about you but I really soaked in the beautiful sunrise today behind Mt. Rainier. That means the days are getting longer and spring is coming!
